It would be great if you could draw a picture of the current technology landscape in the Sports domain. Any recent technology-news or facts that you found out very promising or revolutionizing to this space?

Sports teams are uniquely positioned to embrace technology. Here at the Kings, we are looking for ways to enhance the fan experience with emerging technology. That includes using new broadcast technology to showcase our games and entertainment around the world in 360 video or virtual reality or installing high-tech ticket scanners to get fans into the venue faster.

How do you see the benefits of cloud computing for the Sports sector, and how have you embraced it?

Team operations are expanding beyond their traditional roles with team members that need to be dynamic and nimble. Before, colleagues had to be in the same room to share data critical to the survival of the project or the team. For example, the Kings business extends beyond basketball into community development, real estate projects, and booking events at a world class venue. Through cloud computing, our team can now interact and collaborate from anywhere, share data and critical information on demand, and not have to worry about being tied to the restraints of an on-site server.

According to you how has Big Data revolutionized sport in unpredictable ways?

In the era of real-time information, data is the key to solving the smallest problems to the biggest issues. For a sports team, data helps us understand our customers, examine our game at new levels, and create innovative solutions, in real-time, to create an incredible experience. With the help of our industry-leading real time Tier 4 data center and Command Center, we’re diving into data at each game to keep our arena safe, fans happy, and business booming.

The whole world is talking about IoT nowadays where everything is connected and talks to one another. Despite the fact, very less is known or is put to practice, it's said IoT is going to change the entire face of human-machine interaction. Would you like to share your perspective on how you think about IoT revolutionizing your marketplace?

With an interconnected environment, we’ll be able to enhance the fan experience by giving our guests more control. Beacons will allow us to inform them of special deals and offers. Through our app, fans will be able to control the temperature of their section. Creating an arena IOT allows us to personalize our guest experience, leaving our fans more satisfied after each game.

What are some of the other technologies, you think should be adopted in the near future?

We are seeing an era of engagement and broadcast. People want to be in places and have experiences through live video. Continue to look for teams to embrace real-time video experiences—360 video, virtual reality, and social platforms that immerse fans into the atmosphere no matter where there are.

With your rich experience of managing IT organization and steering technology for your enterprise, can you please share some of the unique lessons learned and your advice for fellow CIOs? How the role of a CIO has changed over all these years looking into all the technology paradigm shift?

Futureproof. When we set out to build our new arena, it was imperative that we created strategies to leave the door open for emerging technology. We have to develop ways to expand our data collection with technology that does not exist yet—and by thinking about what is ahead of us, we have created a platform that is sure to remain on the cutting-edge for the next 10 or 20 years.
